GERMAN SHEPHERDS READY FOR ADOPTION

TO ADOPT A RESCUE PLEASE COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING ADOPTION APPLICATION.

ADOPTION APPLICATION

ALL DOGS SHOWN BY APPOINTMENT ONLY - MUST HAVE A COMPLETED ADOPTION APPLICATION BEFORE ADOPTION PROCESS WILL BEGIN

By completing the following application for adoption we will have a better idea of the dog that is best suited for your home. NON-REFUNDABLE Adoption fee of $250 applies to each rescue. This includes spay/neutering, DHLPP shot, worming, rabies shot, heartworm check and preventative, and microchip and registration. All dogs are placed into homes WE feel are right for them. We attempt to match the dog to the family's lifestyle and vise versa. We gather information and steer the adoptive family to the dog that would be best suited for that family's lifestyle. Just as people are not the same nor are the GSD's that come to the rescue. Each is bringing his/her own story that must be taken in to consideration. Some have less baggage than others. Some adapt quicker than others. But keeping these things in mind and giving love, patience and understanding to your new pal, you will recieve love back 10 fold. Rescues are some of the most forgiving souls I have ever met. Willing to put the past in the past and live life to it's fullest. Bringing love and joy to all that open the door. Thanks to PetFinders our adoption rate is very successful. We feel we can find the perfect GSD for your home and family. We strive to bring in only quality and solid minded dogs that are ready and willing to fit into most homes and families.

IF YOU ARE A RENTER YOU WILL BE ASKED TO PRODUCE A COPY OF YOUR LEASE OR CONTRACT AND PROOF OF PREPAID PET DEPOSIT. NO EXCEPTIONS MADE.

WHO WE ARE

We operate as a not-for-profit organization dedicated to placing solid temperamented GSD's and giving them a second chance to serve. We are not affiliated with any other GSD Rescue in INDIANA. The philosophy of this rescue is soley that of Melody Miller and of no other. Melody has taken great pride in placing non-aggressive dogs that have been thoroughly temperament tested. Children are our first and foremost concern when placing these dogs.

SURRENDERING YOUR GSD TO THE RESCUE

WE DO NOT TAKE IN DOGS WITH ANY AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIORS. NONE. If you have a dog that is dog aggressive or will not greet strangers freely please do not call. We do temp test all the dogs. I will not make any exceptions on temperaments. If you have a GSD that you must surrender please note that we must temperament test the dog before committing to accepting the dog into rescue. We also heartworm check the dog upon arrival. If the dog is found to be heartworm positive, depending on space and funds, we may not be able to accept the GSD at the time. NOT ALL DOGS EVALUATED ARE FOUND SUITABLE FOR PLACEMENT IN MY RESCUE.

WHAT'S HAPPENING AT THE RESCUE

We continue to pull wonderful dogs at an alarming rate from the area shelters. It was my hope that I would soon see the number of unwanted dogs dwendle and start to taper off. That is not happening at all. Once again the focus must be on educating the public on responsibility and commitment. When adopters come to the rescue they are usually taken back by the quality of GSD found in a rescue. These are top of the line dogs that would make many a professional breeder envious. But yet most, if not all have come from a shelter.

The only way we can lower these numbers is by asking breeders to help educate prospective buyers, asking for a contract when purchasing the puppy AND promising to take it back if the puppy does not work out, selling pet quality pups on a spay/neuter agreement, and by only selling to approved vet checked homes.

KEY ELEMENT: educating people BEFORE they purchase that cute little puppy that will be over a 100 pounds in 12 months, educate people on positive training methods, ( PINCH COLLARS OR PRONG COLLARS ISN'T MY IDEA OF TRAINING, torture yes, training NO ) and finally educating the public on spaying or neutering pets BEFORE accidents happen.

GSD Rescue of Central Indiana has been serving the GSD world since 1996. We have taken into the rescue over 500 GSD's to date. So many of these dogs came from area shelters. Each with it's own story to share. Most of these unwanted pets end up in our local shelters because people did not do their homework BEFORE getting a new dog. PLEASE EDUCATE YOURSELF ON THE BREED YOU DESIRE TO PURCHASE PRIOR TO BRINGING THE DOG HOME. BE SERIOUS ABOUT THE COMMITMENT AND KNOW THAT HARMONY IS NOT AN OVER NIGHT ACHEIVEMENT. IT TAKES TIME!!!

Taking in a pet should be a life-long commitment, not just until the pet is out of the cutesy stage or starts to have behavior problems because of lack of time spent on training.

While we are doing all we can to pull GSD's from the shelters we seem to only be making a slight dent in the population. The shelters are never without a German Shepherd to be pulled and rescued. Please save a life and adopt a rescue or shelter pet. Shelter pets are listed as phone number only on the site. You must contact the shelter for adoption of these pets. We do not know the temperaments of the dogs at the shelters. GSDR adoption contract does not apply to shelter GSD's.

If you love German Shepherds make a difference! More GSD enthusists need to become involved in the rescue efforts. Plain and simple: WE NEED HELP!!! We understand if you are not able to take in a dog. You can always donate your time to a rescue or shelter. Help train, walk or even poop patrol! We appreciate every minute, every effort, and every scoop!

-Melody
